TERMS OF REFERENCE
- To make recommendations to the Council on the strategies and programmes that enhance members' benefits and interests, including but not limited to:
- law firm management and promotion of legal services;
- organizing career development and networking opportunities for members;
- provision of lawyer referral, law list, law firm directory, and online information services;
- dealing with the general ethics and practice enquiries by members or in relation to their legal practices;
- managing the members' hotline;
- provision of practice resources and tools, library and legal technology resources;
- provision of programmes on member advantage, discounts and benefits;
- dissemination of practice notes, circulars, newsletters and other information to members;
- organizing programmes, and special interest group functions for young solicitors, corporate counsel, foreign lawyers, trainee solicitors and law students; and
- managing the Clubhouse and library facilities, sports and recreations and other social functions for members.
- To oversee the implementation of the strategies and programmes approved by the Council.
- To oversee the production of the Law Society members' publications, such as the Hong Kong Lawyer, practice manuals, checklists, notes and guides, the Annual Report and other Law Society periodic publications, pamphlets and brochures.
- To oversee the co-ordination of Law Society members' forums and conferences.
- To oversee the operation of the Law Society Clubhouse.
- To review and approve the terms of reference, of the committees under the Standing Committee, including but not limited to:
- Recreation and Sports Committee
- Technology Committee (formerly known as the "Management and Technology Committee")
- Young Solicitors Group
- Law Society Clubhouse Committee
- Practice Management Committee (new)
- Members' Benefits Committee (new)
- Corporate Counsel Group (new)
- Foreign Lawyers Group (new)
- Trainee Solicitors Interest Group (new)
- Student Members Interest Group (new)
- Hong Kong Lawyer Editorial Board
- To set up new committees, sub-committees or working parties as it may consider necessary from time to time, subject to pre-approval by the Council or the Standing Committee on Policy & Resources; and to review and approve their terms of reference.
